Emetophobia
Emetophobia is a fear of vomiting. This can occur with or without food present.  This is often linked with OCD behaviour.  However the fear of vomiting specifically around food is more aligned with ARFID and is less likely to be OCD type Emetophobia.  Click the link to find out more.
ADHD
Inattentiveness or distraction can lead some people with ADHD to miss meals or forget about eating all together. They may also eat very quickly and choke during their meals, which can cause the type of trauma that sparks more restrictive eating (ie. ARFID).  Click the link to find out more.
SPD
Sensory Processing Disorder occurs when the brain has difficulty receiving and responding to information that comes through the sensory system.  It can manifest as over- or under- sensitivity to things in the environment, for example, noise, bright lights, tastes, textures or smells.  Food can become a strong sensory aversion.  Click the link to find out more.
PDA
Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) is something that is often associated with the autism spectrum. People with PDA are driven to avoid everyday demands and expectations to an extreme extent. Caused by an anxiety-based need to be in control, some people with PDA see eating as being a  'demand.'   Click the link to find out more.
OCD
A person with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) experiences obsessive thoughts and mental images and engages in compulsions, which are behaviors or rituals meant to cope with the obsessive thoughts.  Someone who has both ARFID and OCD may have intrusive thoughts about contamination, and they may avoid certain foods, or perhaps all foods, out of fear of eating something that is contaminated.  Click the link to find out more.
